"Assalam-o-Alaikum! Welcome to Day 21 of Graphic Designing Mastery. I am Ali
Akbar Shah. Today we enter the world of print design — and we start with the
smallest, most common print job in the world: the business card. By the end of
today, you will set up a print-correct card, design both sides, and export a
PDF that any print shop can use. Let's begin."
**[SCREEN CUE: Show a printed business card close-up, then CorelDRAW blank.]**
**[2:00 — SIZE, BLEED, SAFE AREA]**
"First, the three zones. The standard card is 3.5 by 2 inches — 89 by 51
millimeters. But we never design exactly at that size. We add bleed — 3
millimeters of extra background on every side — because the cutting machine is
not perfect. So our working page is 95 by 57 millimeters."
**[SCREEN CUE: File > New; Layout > Page Size; type 95 × 57 mm. Draw red trim
rectangle 89 × 51 mm, press P to center. Draw blue safe rectangle 79 × 41 mm,
press P.]**
"See the red rectangle? That is the trim — where the cutter cuts. The blue one
is the safe area — 5 millimeters inside. Rule: backgrounds go out to the bleed,
words stay inside the safe area."
**[6:00 — CMYK]**
"Second rule of print: we design in CMYK, not RGB. Your screen makes color
with light; the printer makes it with ink. Press F11 — Uniform Fill — and
choose the CMYK model. Type your values. For small black text, use plain black,
K 100, so it prints sharp."
**[SCREEN CUE: F11 > CMYK sliders; fill a test square.]**
**[8:00 — FRONT SIDE DEMO]**
"Now the front — the identity side. Full-bleed cream background. A simple logo
mark drawn with the Bezier tool in warm brown. The name 'Crumb & Craft' in a
serif font, 14 point, centered. Tagline in italic, 7 point, and a thin gold
rule. Everything centered, everything inside the blue safe zone."
**[SCREEN CUE: Build the front live: rectangle, F11 cream; Bezier mark; F8 text;
align with Object > Align and Distribute.]**
**[14:00 — BACK SIDE DEMO]**
"Back side — the information side. Layout > Insert Page. Brown background to
bleed. Then a clean text block, left-aligned, inside the safe area: name,
title, phone, email, address. Name biggest, details smallest — that order is
called hierarchy. A small cream logo in the corner ties both sides together."
**[SCREEN CUE: Build the back live on page 2.]**
**[20:00 — PREFLIGHT CHECK]**
"Before export, three checks. One: any photos at 300 dpi? Select the image,
Bitmaps > Resample, and look. Two: every color CMYK? Press F11 on each object
and check the model. Three: guides on — backgrounds reach the edge, text inside
the blue box?"
**[SCREEN CUE: Run through the three checks on screen.]**
**[23:00 — EXPORT]**
"File > Publish to PDF. Choose a PDF/X preset — that is the print-shop
standard. Check the Prepress tab for bleed settings. Export both pages. Open
the PDF at 100 percent. Both sides, correct size, nothing cut off — that is a
print-ready card."
**[SCREEN CUE: Publish to PDF dialog; open finished PDF.]**
**[26:00 — CLOSE]**
"Your assignment: design a two-sided card for the fictional GlowCare Salon —
brief and specs are in Daily-Assignment.md. Submit the CDR and the PDF. In the
next lesson, we scale up: flyers and posters. Allah Hafiz!"
