# Module Assignment M03 — Color & Typography System Sheet
## ARTTECHES Graphic Designing Mastery | Instructor: Ali Akbar Shah

**Weight:** Counts toward Module Assignments (25% of final grade)
**Module:** M03 — Color and Typography (Days 05–07)
**Time:** About 3 hours

## 1. Objective

Build a working color palette and a font pairing system for a real-feeling brand, and show you understand RGB vs CMYK, color harmony, honest color psychology, and typographic hierarchy.

## 2. Design Brief (fictional client)

**Client:** "Morning Dew Tea House" — a small, calm tea café that wants to feel peaceful, natural, and trustworthy.
**Situation:** The café has no brand colors and no chosen fonts. Everything they print looks random.
**Your job:** Create their color system (one harmony-based palette) and their typography system (one heading font + one body font pairing), and demonstrate both on a single presentation sheet.

## 3. Specifications

- **Sheet size:** A3 landscape (420 × 297 mm), RGB color mode (screen presentation).
- **Palette:** Exactly 5 colors, built on ONE harmony (monochromatic, analogous, complementary, split-complementary, or triadic — your choice). Show each swatch with its HEX code and RGB values.
- **Typography:** Two fonts only (one for headings, one for body). Both must be free for commercial use (e.g., from Google Fonts). Show the font names, the pairing reason, and samples at 3 sizes.
- **Tools:** CorelDRAW. Use the Color docker/palette tools and the Text tool.

## 4. Step-by-Step Requirements

1. **Choose your harmony.** Pick one color harmony and write its name on the sheet. Build 5 colors from it — no random colors.
2. **Draw the 5 swatches.** Large rectangles, each labeled with color name (your own names, e.g., "Dew Green"), HEX code, and RGB values.
3. **Add a print note.** Under the palette, write 3–4 lines explaining what would change if this palette were printed (RGB → CMYK shift), and name which of your 5 colors is most at risk of looking dull in print.
4. **Choose and justify fonts.** Write the two font names, where each is used (headings/body), and 2–3 lines on why they suit a calm tea café. Keep color psychology honest: describe the feeling, never promise results like "this color will increase sales."
5. **Build a hierarchy demo.** On the same sheet, set a sample café headline, sub-headline, and paragraph using your two fonts and your palette — showing clear size and weight contrast.
6. **Show a mini application.** Place the palette + fonts on one small mock layout (e.g., a tea menu card header) to prove the system works together.

## 5. Deliverables

1. `GDM-M03-YourName-ColorType-v1.pdf` — the A3 presentation sheet (RGB).
2. `GDM-M03-YourName-ColorType-v1.cdr` — the CorelDRAW source file.

## 6. Submission Instructions

- Name files exactly as above (replace YourName, no spaces).
- Export the PDF from CorelDRAW via File → Export (PDF), RGB.
- Submit both files before the deadline. Late work loses 10 points per day.

## 7. Evaluation Rubric (Total: 100)

| Criteria | Points | What earns full marks |
|---|---|---|
| Harmony correctness | 20 | 5 colors truly follow the named harmony; HEX + RGB values all present and correct |
| Print note (RGB vs CMYK) | 15 | Correct explanation of the shift; the at-risk color identified with a reason |
| Font pairing | 20 | Two suitable, free fonts; clear roles; honest, sensible justification |
| Typographic hierarchy | 20 | Clear size/weight contrast across headline, sub-headline, paragraph; readable |
| Mini application | 15 | Palette and fonts used together convincingly on the menu card header |
| Neatness & labeling | 10 | Clean alignment, correct spelling, professional sheet layout |

## 8. Common Errors

- Five random favorite colors labeled as a "harmony" — the harmony must be real and visible.
- HEX codes copied wrong (always cross-check one code).
- Promising business results from colors ("green will bring more customers") — describe feelings, not results.
- Using more than two fonts, or fonts that are not free for commercial use.
- Hierarchy demo where headline and body look almost the same size.

## 9. Instructor Marking Guide

- Verify one HEX code with a color picker; if codes are wrong, cap harmony at 10/20.
- Check the harmony visually: open the CDR, select swatches, confirm they sit on the claimed harmony (e.g., true complementary = opposites on the wheel). "Close enough" is not full marks.
- The print note must show understanding, not memorized definitions. Look for the student's own reasoning about which color dulls in CMYK (bright greens/oranges are the usual honest answers).
- Fonts: quickly confirm the fonts are free for commercial use (Google Fonts is safe). A paid font without a license note loses 5 points.
- Hierarchy: squint test — at arm's length the three text levels must be instantly distinguishable.
