# Day-19 — Video Script: YouTube Thumbnails & Banners

**Runtime target:** ~24 minutes | **Format:** screen recording + narration

---

**[0:00 — INTRO]**
NARRATION: "Welcome to Day 19. On YouTube, nobody watches a video they
don't click — and the thumbnail earns the click. Today you'll design
thumbnails that survive the postage-stamp test and channel banners that
frame a brand on every screen. Two canvases, two disciplines, one goal:
get clicked, look professional."

**[1:00 — SCREEN: YouTube feed mockup]**
NARRATION: "Look at any YouTube feed. Dozens of thumbnails fighting side
by side, most viewed on a phone. Your design has a fraction of a second.
That's why thumbnails follow strict rules — and rule one is size: 1280 by
720 pixels, sixteen by nine."
SCREEN CUE: Show a feed screenshot-style mock; highlight thumbnail sizes.

**[2:30 — SCREEN: new 1280×720 document]**
NARRATION: "File, New: 1280 by 720, RGB. Dark brown gradient background —
thumbnails need drama and contrast. Now the focal point: one steaming cup,
large, on the left thirds intersection. One focal point — two is zero."
SCREEN CUE: Build background; place the cup photo.

**[6:00 — SCREEN: adding headline text]**
NARRATION: "Rule two: the three-word headline. 'PERFECT CHAI' — two words,
extra bold, warm yellow, enormous. The video title already says
'5-Minute Masala Chai' — the thumbnail just delivers the punch. Thin fonts
die here; only extra-bold survives."
SCREEN CUE: Set the headline; add shadow/outline for pop.

**[9:00 — SCREEN: zooming out to 12%]**
NARRATION: "Now the test that matters most: zoom to twelve percent. This
is what a phone feed sees. Can you read it? Can you tell what it is? Mine
passes. If yours fails, the fix is always the same: bigger text, stronger
contrast, simpler composition. Never ship a thumbnail that fails this
test."
SCREEN CUE: Zoom out live; show pass/fail comparison.

**[12:00 — SCREEN: export]**
NARRATION: "Export: Control+E, PNG, 1280 by 720, and check the file stays
under two megabytes — that's YouTube's upload limit. Done: an
upload-ready thumbnail."
SCREEN CUE: Export and verify.

**[13:30 — SCREEN: new 2560×1440 document]**
NARRATION: "Part two: the channel banner. New document: 2560 by 1440. But
here's the catch — YouTube crops the edges differently on TV, desktop,
tablet, and phone. Only the center 1546 by 423 pixels is guaranteed
visible. So I draw that rectangle, centered, as my guide. Everything
important lives inside it. The edges are decoration only."
SCREEN CUE: Create document; draw and center the safe-area guide.

**[17:00 — SCREEN: banner content]**
NARRATION: "Inside the safe area: 'CUPPA JOY' — big and bold. 'Tea Recipes
Every Friday' — the schedule, so viewers know what to expect. Small logo.
Outside: soft steam swirls bleeding off the edges — pretty, but nothing
we'd miss on a phone. Delete the guide, export at 2560 by 1440."
SCREEN CUE: Build banner; remove guide; export.

**[20:30 — SCREEN: phone-crop check]**
NARRATION: "Final honesty check: crop it to phone width mentally — all
the key text survives because we respected the safe area. That's the whole
discipline."
SCREEN CUE: Demonstrate the crop.

**[22:00 — WRAP-UP]**
NARRATION: "Recap: thumbnails — 1280 by 720, one focal point, three words
max, extra-bold, and the twelve-percent legibility test. Banners — 2560 by
1440, everything critical inside the 1546-by-423 safe area. Your
assignment: three thumbnails in one channel template plus a matching
banner for Cuppa Joy. Tomorrow: the final social module day — ad
creatives, CTA buttons, and export specs for every platform. See you on
Day 20."
SCREEN CUE: Title card with assignment summary.
