# Video Script — Day-07: Typography

**Course:** ARTTECHES Graphic Designing Mastery
**Module:** M03 — Color and Typography
**Instructor:** Ali Akbar Shah
**Estimated video length:** 30–35 minutes

## [INTRO — 0:00–2:00] (Instructor on camera, holding a menu card)

**Narration:**
"Welcome to Day 7 — the last day of our foundation week. Here is a
professional secret: in most designs, TEXT is the design. Strip the photos
from this menu — what is left? Typography. And bad typography destroys
good layouts: the wrong font makes a bank look like a toy shop. Today:
the four font families, pairing rules, hierarchy, spacing, readability —
and the legal side of fonts. From tomorrow, we open CorelDRAW."

**[Cue: show the menu card, then a version with terrible typography for
contrast]**

---

## [OBJECTIVES — 2:00–3:00]

**Narration:**
"Today: name all four font families, pair fonts by rule, build type
hierarchy with correct line-height and letter-spacing, judge readability,
and source fonts lawfully."

---

## [SECTION 1 — THE FOUR FAMILIES — 3:00–10:00] (Slides, live writing demo)

**Narration:**
"Four families. Serif — letters with little feet. Formal, trustworthy —
wedding cards, banks. Sans-serif — no feet, clean and modern — tech,
social media. Script — handwriting, elegant — names and accents ONLY,
never paragraphs. Display — loud costume-party fonts — headlines only.
My memory trick: serif wears formal shoes, sans-serif wears clean
sneakers, script is wedding calligraphy, display is a costume party —
fun once, tiring every day."

**[Cue: write the same word in four styles live on paper, camera overhead]**

---

## [SECTION 2 — PAIRING — 10:00–15:00]

**Narration:**
"Pairing rules. Rule one: maximum two fonts per design. Beginners — two,
always. Rule two: contrast with harmony — a serif headline with a
sans-serif body is the classic. Rule three: the safest pairing on earth —
same family, different weights. Poppins Bold headlines, Poppins Regular
body. Cannot clash. Rule four: never pair two almost-matching fonts — it
looks like a mistake. Rule five: match the mood to the brief."

**[Cue: show good pairings vs the 'five-font crime scene']**

---

## [SECTION 3 — HIERARCHY & SPACING — 15:00–22:00] (Live paper demo)

**Narration:**
"Type hierarchy: headline two to three times the body size, bold weight,
subhead in the middle. Then spacing. Line-height — the space between
lines — for body text, one-point-four to one-point-six times the font
size. Watch..." **[Cue: overhead demo — same paragraph cramped vs 1.5×
spacing.]** "Letter-spacing: slightly wider on ALL-CAPS headlines looks
premium. And color contrast — squint test. If the text disappears, it
fails."

---

## [SECTION 4 — READABILITY + FONTS SOURCES — 22:00–27:00]

**Narration:**
"Readability rules: 45 to 75 characters per line. Left-align body text —
the eye needs its home edge. ALL CAPS sparingly — paragraphs in caps are
shouting and slow to read. Emphasize little — bold everything and you
emphasize nothing. And the legal side: Google Fonts — fifteen hundred
fonts, free for commercial client work. Random free-font sites? Check the
license first. 'Free download' does not mean 'free for clients.'"

**[Cue: screen-record a quick Google Fonts browse + license check]**

---

## [SECTION 5 — FULL DEMO — 27:00–30:00]

**Narration:**
"Watch the full build: the Fresh Oven Bakery flyer. Friendly bold
sans-serif headline — readable from across the street. Same family regular
for body — safe pairing. One script accent for the word 'Fresh' — warmth.
Hierarchy three-two-one, line-height one-point-five, squint test passed,
fonts documented. That is professional typography."

---

## [MISTAKES — 30:00–31:30]

**Narration:**
"Mistakes: five fonts in one flyer. Script for paragraphs. Cramped lines.
Centered paragraphs. Light gray on white. And mystery fonts with mystery
licenses."

---

## [PRACTICE + RECAP + WEEK-1 CLOSE — 31:30–35:00]

**Narration:**
"Exercise: Type Rescue — diagnose the Mobile Zone disaster and rebuild
it. Assignment: the Dawat Restaurant menu card — your Week-1 capstone,
combining brief, layout, color, and typography, plus a reflection on all
seven days. Seven days ago you had never written a design brief. Today
you speak contrast, hierarchy, gamut, and tracking. Next week: CorelDRAW
opens, and everything you learned goes on screen. I am proud of you —
see you on Day 8!"

**[Cue: end screen — 'Day-07 Assignment: Dawat Restaurant Menu + Week-1
Reflection' + 'Day-08: CorelDRAW Begins']**
